Welcome Janice Martinez and Kevin McWain

Janice Martinez grew up in a small, rural farming community in southern Colorado. She found her “why” of working with students in the educational setting. Janice’s upbringing was deeply rooted in a strong work ethic, and her parent’s expectations shaped her integrity, loyalty, understanding, and relationships with others. As a result, she builds trusting relationships with students, staff, and parents. Janice received a bachelor’s in Mathematics Education from Colorado State University, a master’s in Curriculum and Instruction from Grand Canyon University, and her principal’s licensure from Colorado State University. Over the last 20 years, Janice has been a math teacher, math department head, school IB coordinator, grade-level team leader, and for the past 4 years has been an assistant principal and school assessment coordinator at Lesher Middle School (Poudre School District).

Kevin McWain worked his way through college and earned a degree studying Social Sciences at Colorado State University. Upon graduating, he entered a management training program at a regional credit union. During his work in the financial industry he recognized his passion for teaching and education. Mr. McWain returned to school. He earned his teaching certificate with an emphasis in history and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Northern Colorado

Mr. McWain has taught, learned, and led in the Weld County RE-1 School District for the past sixteen years. He was teaching Social Studies at South Valley Middle School when he was recognized for the regular use of technology in his lessons. He was then promoted to Technology Integration Coach for the district’s secondary schools. Ultimately, he assumed the role of the Assistant Principal/Athletics Director at Valley High School where he has been for the past eight years.
